ISAIAH
Isaiah is the first of the books to come under the classification of the “Oracles of the Prophets” and is the first of the major prophets.
It appears Isaiah prophesied during the latter half of the Eighth Century BC during the reign of four kings of Judah—Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz and Hezekiah. History has indicated many of the prophecies had taken place in a time future from the original writing yet there are many that point to a still future fulfillment (and at times a double fulfillment). There are many times that a chapter or portion is repeated or expounded upon in another book such as Hezekiah being granted an extended life in Isaiah 38:1-22 is also in 2 Kings 20:1-22 and 2 Chronicles 32:24-26.
Due to the inherent nature of prophetic books, there has always been widespread disagreement on some of the meanings. However, one very important note is that the entire book of Isaiah (with the exception of a few damaged portions) was found in Qumran as part of the Dead Sea Scrolls. It is believed to be roughly 1,000 years older than the oldest Hebrew manuscript known to exist. And it has confirmed what has been written in Isaiah which has come through the ages.
It would benefit any reader with any interest in history to research the history in this timeframe as it will confirm and cement much of your understanding of this book. However, the intent of this website is merely to encourage folks to READ the entire book first and then come back to research.
We will be using the New King James Version for this book.
